‘Dubai:’ More than a love story and to look forward to
In case you haven’t noticed Star Cinema has been bringing moviegoers around the world on the wings of love - love stories, that is, that are set in various places in the world.
A few years ago, Star Cinema filmed a virtual love story between a mother and a daughter separated by years but brought back together by familial love, in HongKong. The movie, "Anak," starred Vilma Santos and Claudine Barretto. It was directed by Nory Quintos, a big hit.
Two years ago, Star Cinema brought Piolo Pascual and Claudine Barretto together in "Milan," filmed in that famed Italian City, directed by Olivia Lamasan. It was also critically and commercially successful.
Now, Star Cinema will bring moviegoers to the cosmopolitan Dubai via a beautiful love story calculated to make everybody feel romantic again and at the same time sympathize with Filipino Overseas Workers (OFW).
Directed by Rory Quintos, Dubai brings back the hit "Kailangan Kita" team-up of Aga Muhlach and Claudine Barretto, with John Lloyd Cruz as the other star.
In the story penned by Ricky Lee and Shaira Mella Salvador (their first screenplay collaboration). Aga and John Lloyd play brothers who promise to stick to each other no matter what happens. When Aga as Raffy gets settled in Dubai, he asked John Lloyd as Andrew to join him. Little do they know that their lives would be challenged and their sibling bonding put to the test when Claudine as Faye crosses their paths.
"Dubai" was filmed entirely in Dubai in such a way that the moviegoers will feel like a tourist as they watch a beautiful love story unfold. The audience will marvel at the sights of Dubai’s skyscrapers in the Shiek Zayed and Al Ain cities, the Sand Dunes and other eye-popping scenery.
The movie’s theme song is the Ogie Alcasid composition, "Ikaw Lamang," sung by Gary Valenciano.
"Dubai" will have its world premiere on Sept. 28 in Milan, San Francisco, Vancouver and Vienna as well as in more than 100 theaters all over the Philippines.

Very nice article. Ano?
Thanks for the article Leigh. Btw....Dito na lang ko. Nakaka hb kasi minsan sa pex eh. So I just lurk over there once in a while pero not lately nga.

Aga and Claudine reunited in ‘Dubai’ Ronald Constantino
DUBAI LOCATION – One of the more memo-rable Aga Muhlach films is Star Cinema’s "Sana Maulit Muli," opposite Lea Salonga and direc-ted by Olive Lamasan. Shot in California, "Sana Maulit Muli" tells of the heartbreaks of a Pinoy TNT (illegal alien) who follows his sweetheart in Ame-rica. The film won awards, including an Urian best actor trophy for Aga.
It was Aga’s second Urian, the first being best supporting actor for "Napakasakit, Kuya Eddie," directed by Lino Brocka.
Aga just wrapped up another movie shot abroad, in the Middle East, where thousands of Filipi-nos work in white collar and blue collar jobs. The cosmopolitan city of Dubai in particular.
•
REUNION – Written by Ricky Lee and Shaira Mella Salvador, "Dubai" reunites Aga with direc-tor Rory Quintos and leading lady Claudine Barretto. Remem-ber them in the beautiful love story "Kailangan Kita," lensed in Bicol with majestic Mt. Mayon as backdrop?
Sharing stellar billing with Aga and Claudine in "Dubai" is that intense young actor John Lloyd Cruz as Aga’s kid brother. JLC may well be the next Aga Muhlach.
Claudine herself made a Star Cinema movie shot abroad, "Milan," directed by Olive La-masan and opposite Piolo Pas-cual. It won awards, including best actress trophies for Clau-dine from the Academy and FAMAS.
Gary Valenciano sings the movie theme, "Ikaw Lamang," written by Ogie Alcasid.
•
PINOY HOME – Writers Lee and Salvador tells the story of "Dubai."
Pinoy’s are in every corner of the world, toiling as nurses in the US, maids in Hong Kong, care-givers in Canada, entertainers in Japan, factory workers in Taiwan, engineers and construction work-ers even in war-torn Iraq. Wher-ever there is work and good pay, there you will find him, leaving his home for the promise of a better and brighter future for his family. The Pinoy diaspora has given rise to this question: "Where is home for the Filipino?" The answer is simple. Home for the Pinoy is where he builds it, though it be in a dangerous place such as Iraq or in a haven such as Dubai.
Raffy (Aga) and Andrew (John Lloyd) were orphaned as kids and had only each other to depend on.
Wanting a better future, Raffy has spent the last nine years of his life working in Dubai. His ultimate goal is to fulfill a lifelong dream: to eventually move to Canada, with his younger brother, Andrew, where their mother once worked. For the meantime, his job in a cou-rier service company keeps him in touch with and popular among Filipino overseas workers.
Until he sends for Andrew to also work in Dubai.
The Alvarez brothers are united. Andrew is mesmerized by the sights and sounds of the country, but more relieved to be finally with Raffy, his brother, provider and defender. And in the company of Raffy’s Filipino group of friends, he is well-received like family.
Then Andrew meets Faye (Claudine), one of Raffy’s many girlfriends in Dubai.
Faye and Andrew hit it off well in spite of their age difference. She becomes his guide, comfort and lover. Seeing the two however, Raffy realizes that he still and really loves Faye. Sacrificing his feelings for her feels more heavy than all the sweat and tears he had to live through in order to fend for Andrew all these years.
When Andrew discovers that his brother still loves Faye, conflict arises between the brothers, al-most severing the ties that bind them, and threatening the achieve-ment of their personal goals in Dubai. In the end, what they choose and achieve are not as planned. But their experiences in Dubai lead to new beginnings in their lives.
Dubai is a touching, intimate story of two brothers, the woman who goes between them, and the sacrifices people make for their loved ones set in the cosmopolitan city of Dubai – a modern-day paradise in the middle of the scorching Arabian desert, a haven for Filipino overseas workers.

September 6, 2005 NITZ MIRALLES People's Tonight
Aabangan namin ang mga susunod at kakaibang gagawing ng Star Cinema to promote the said movie. Re-team up ito nina Aga at Claudine Barretto at sa presscon, paulit-ulit na sinabi ng actor how he loves working with the actress. He hopes that in three years time, magawa nila ang pelikula. "Siguro, pareho kaming actors in the true sense of the word. It's best working with her," sabi ni Aga.

MALAYA ENTERTAINMENT STUDIO WHISPERS ETHEL RAMOS SEPT. 7, 2005. Claudine pampers Aga, John Lloyd Claudine Barretto and John Lloyd Cruz are both the youngest in their families. No wonder, they treated each other like siblings when they were shooting scenes for their movie “Dubai,” produced by Star Cinema, in Dubai. "In John Lloyd, I saw a younger brother whom I would have spoiled so much. John Lloyd, for his part, shared: "In Claudine I found a sister na ‘di ako nagkaroon at magkakaroon pa man. I have two elder brothers. We were assigned the same apartment. Do you know na inasikaso kaming mabuti ni Claudine? She not only served as our cook but also our labandera. "One thing I noticed about her is that she’s a stickler for cleanliness. Kapag nagkakalat kami ni Aga, kaagad she will call our attention; which we didn’t mind at all. John Lloyd considers "Dubai" his first adult movie and a most challenging one at that. After all, he explained, not every young actor is given the chance to pit talents with two award-winning and popular performers like Aga and Claudine. "I notice that both of them are very generous with their talents," he related. "When we were rehearsing for a scene, they would give me tips on how to do my part, and I appreciated their help so much." He has, likewise, good words for Rory Quintos, their director, who was so patient with him. "May mga pagkakataon kasi, lalo’t noong mga unang araw ng siyuting, when I felt nervous. Direk would always assure me. Alalay talaga siya sa performance ko from beginning to end. "This early, kahit magkakasama pa nga kami for the promotions of the movie, parang nami-miss ko na sila," he said further.
