Article from Ogie Diaz People's Tonight
Vicki Belo at Osang, baka itong kina Claudine at Jo-Ann, may pag-asa pa, 'di ba?

I'm sure may pag-asang ma resolve if both parties are willing.

petmama, i hope claudine can pull a stunt ala angelina jolie. during the promo of mr. and mrs. smith, sobra sobra din ang rumors about her .. brad .. and jennifer aniston. what she did, she asked her lawyers to draft a letter to all the press .. they had to sign the agreement before they can join the press conferences. agree naman ang producers dun ng mr and mrs smith kasi they want the promos to focus on the movie, not on their personal issues and rumors about themselves. lindsay lohan pulled this also. when she released herbie .. in the middle of anorexia and family issues sa tabloids. gah, as bad as hollywood is, sometimes i appreciate it. sana pwede to.
they could have arranged this in a settlement lang. but joann printed so much already. she wants to be sensationalized. what can we do? greedy bitch.

Claudine admits she was caught offguard by civil case against her By Shirley Matias Pizarro Source : Manila Bulletin Online
Beleaguered actress Claudine Barretto admitted in a press conference last Monday that she did not expect the R150,000-civil case filed against her by former "Marina" co-star Patricia Marcelo, daughter of Yes! Entertainment editor Jo-Ann Q. Maglipon, at the Quezon City court.
She said in an interview after the press conference for her latest movie "Dubai" under Star Cinema at ABS-CBN’s EJL Building last Monday, "when I filed the case against Ms. Maglipon, I expected that she would file a counter-suit. But the case that her daughter Pat has filed, I did not expect that," she said.
It will be recalled that Maglipon filed a seven-count libel case with no monetary consideration against Claudine in three separate courts earlier in response to the defamation case that the actress has filed against the journalist last month.
Claudine neither denied nor confirmed to Manila Bulletin earlier reports saying that she has accused Patricia Marcelo, a former cast member of the ABS-CBN fantasy series "Marina" which she headlined, of allegedly taking illegal photos of the set and its cast and for using a pseudonym to gatecrash the taping of the TV series for the benefit of publishing such in Yes! magazine.
When asked whether she thinks she was misquoted by the one who wrote the article, Claudine answered vaguely, "I don’t want to say that I was misquoted. Hindi ko naman po gustong magbintang ng ganoon sa writer. Hindi naman ganoon ang ibig kong sabihin."
Manila Bulletin asked her whether that statement was in effect denying she ever said being deceived, the actress simply said, "hindi ko lang po talaga alam na si Pat Marcelo ay Maglipon din. Hindi ko alam na anak siya ni Ms. Maglipon. Iyon lang po ang ibig kong sabihin."
Claudine, when prompted, also said she is open to mediation. "Ang alam ko po we will go through that talaga. But yes, I’ll be open to that. Although I don’t know really where it would lead. I haven’t seen the copy of the complaints that they filed against me. I really cannot say at this point. I will cross the bridge when I get there. Wala naman pong tao na ginugustong may kagalit siya," she said.
She said to this effect, however, "honestly, hindi ko po talaga alam kung ano ang nararamdaman ko at this point. Hindi ko rin alam kung ano ang pakiramdam nila. Kaya mahirap ding magsalita."
Claudine, who is being represented by lawyer Raymund Fortun in the case, refused to answer pointed questions by repeatedly saying that "all your questions will be answered and my side of the story will be aired as soon as we start hearing on the case that I have filed against Ms. Maglipon in court."
While saying that the Rico Yan writeup was just the start of the series of articles that she felt "disadvantaged," Claudine stressed that "there were several warnings and memos sent to Ms. Maglipon from ABS-CBN to this effect before we actually filed the case against her. I think they failed to mention that fact. But anyway, this will all be disclosed during the hearing. Nasa court na po kasi ang kaso. I was advised already to stop from talking about it."
When asked how she copes with the legal conflicts, Claudine said quietly, "in all sincerity, I pray hard. That’s all I do to rise above all these," she ended.
In the criminal complaint Maglipon filed against Barretto in three separate courts, Maglipon didn’t ask for a single centavo. She said, "This is not about money and grandstanding. This is about name and honor. I did not spend 30 years as a journalist only to have someone, no matter what her station in society, tear at it. The same public that Claudine addressed must be told that Claudine has done a most unChristian thing. She has willfully wronged a person."
Maglipon, is being represented by the lawyers Sandra Coronel and Fely Arroyo with Sammy Estimo as collaborating counsel.
For her part, the 28-year-old Patricia Marcelo has asked the court to grant her R75,000 moral damages and R75,000 in exemplary damages. She said, "This amount is negligible, maybe even laughable, by the standards of a movie star like Claudine Barretto. But this is the amount many times awarded to ordinary citizens for the equal loss of honor, home, health, and job. Now it is the exact amount I need to tell Ms. Barretto that this case is not about money, it is about name."

'I didn't see it coming' First posted 11:05pm (Mla time) Aug 30, 2005 By Nini Valera Inquirer News Service
Editor's Note: Published on page A32 of the August 31, 2005 issue of the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
CLAUDINE Barretto said she had not expected the lawsuit filed against her last Friday by the daughter of magazine editor Jo-Ann Maglipon. The actress sued Maglipon for libel last August.
On Friday, Pat Marcelo filed a P150,000 suit against Claudine for allegedly maligning her in several radio and print interviews.
"When I filed the case against Maglipon, I expected [the counter suit from her]," Claudine told Inquirer Entertainment on Monday during the press conference for "Dubai," her latest movie. "I didn't expect [this one from] Pat."
Maglipon's daughter, who worked on the set of Claudine's soap "Marina" as a diver, accused the actress of saying in the interviews that she "conspired with her mother Jo-Ann Maglipon ... by entering the set of 'Marina' under a false name in order to steal shots or pictures of ... Barretto and publish them in YES! magazine."
In her complaint, Pat said Claudine "pictured her ... as a liar and a thief."
Claudine denied that she accused Pat of changing names to gatecrash "Marina's" set. "I didn't know she was Maglipon's daughter," the actress said.
Laughable In a separate statement, Pat said the moral and exemplary charges she was seeking was "negligible, maybe even laughable, by the standards of a movie star like Claudine Barretto." But, she continued, "this case is not about the money, it is about name."
Claudine stressed that she had not read the tabloid columns of Jobert Sucaldito, which was cited in Maglipon's counter suit. "I don't want to accuse somebody of misquoting me," Claudine said. "It's better that this is already in court."
In her complaint, Claudine accused Maglipon of "unfair and irresponsible journalism" for publishing allegedly unauthorized photos of the actress in unguarded moments, and a series of "one-sided articles" that depicted her in a bad light.
Further, she said, pictures of her daughter Sabina's baptism, published in Hi Magazine, of which Maglipon is executive editor, had been promised for exclusive publication in Star Studio magazine and Inquirer.
The actress also sought a restraining order to keep the magazine editor at a distance of at least 250 meters.
On the other hand, Claudine admitted that the Hi Magazine feature was very positive. She said she sued only Maglipon and not the other staff members because she did not want to involve people who had not done her harm.
Would she welcome an amicable settlement? "I don't know yet," she said. "Right now, I don't know what I feel and what she feels. Of course, no one wants trouble. I feel bad, and I want all this to end."
Meanwhile, she hasn't seen any of the complaints, Claudine said. "I hear different things from different people. I cannot say that I am not affected. There are days when I feel down. So I just count my blessings."
Among her latest blessings, she said, is "Dubai," her last movie as a single woman, with Aga Mulach and John Lloyd Cruz. In January, she will wed long-time boyfriend Raymart Santiago.

I doubt that will work over there Jen. Most of the reporters diyan sadly do not know the meaning of "ethics". So yeah, I'm also hoping that they could just meet in person & settle everything. Claudine for sure does not need this. She's too busy with her tv show, movies then her wedding preps & Sabina of course.
