The story follows the journey of naïve Lino (Piolo Pascual) as he searches for his wife, Mary Grace, who has been missing since she left for Italy to work as a domestic helper. For months, his only connection with her are his unfinished and unsent letters of love. Finally, finding no redemption in other people, and so longing to be with the only person whom he thinks has ever understood him, Lino leaves the Philippines in haste. Without so much as a clue as to where Mary Grace is in Milan, Lino is forced to give his meager piece of land as collateral to finance his trip. For the first time, Lino parts with his nagging siblings, and seemingly bleak future in the Philippines. Arriving in Milan, Lino's one and only way of contacting Mary Grace botches up. But as fate would have it, he comes across Jenny (Claudine Baretto), a beautiful Italian-speaking Filipina. Not to mention a rogue, ambitious and self-absorbed character. Seeing how she could milk Lino's gullibility and desperation, Jenny takes him as a border in a small apartment. She needs all the extra income she could get to hasten the fulfillment of her dream, the very purpose of her stay in Milan, which is to bring in her family to live with her and escape their problems in Manila. Lino takes Jenny's hospitality as a blessing. For this, he proudly writes about his high hopes in another unfinished letter for Mary Grace. During Jenny's free time from work, she takes Lino around Milan, showing him sites and the places where he can find many Filipinos with whom he can inquire about Mary Grace. They take the Metro, dine in an Italian eatery, check the Philippine Consulate, visit the Duomo and Galleria. Jenny and Lino scout the streets of Milan. She would even teach him the Italian language, protect him and give him advice, but of course, everything is at a price. Despite Jenny's arrogance and notoriety in the Filipino community of migrant workers, Lino's need and admiration for her grows even more. He would even write about her in his unsent letters for Mary Grace. And as Jenny prepares him to be more independent in his search, she finds herself drawn towards him - an irony for Jenny, whose dreams of grandeur limits her from personally relating to those other than her Italian boyfriend and employers. However, having a tiny bedroom with just a curtain to divide their personal space, Lino could not help but be attracted to Jenny. The search takes longer than Lino had expected. Jenny unwittingly implies that the search may be in vain since Mary Grace does not want to be found. She even laughs at Lino's unsent letters. Downtrodden Lino takes this as a wake up call. Alas, he takes up Jenny's former advice for him to get a job. One fine day, Jenny receives a tip regarding Mary Grace's whereabouts. Immediately, she sets off for Brescia. There she meets Lino's long lost wife, whose weathered appearance could only have been caused by a painful experience. Mary Grace with her baby, warmly receives Jenny who makes no mention of Lino. And Jenny makes no mention of Mary Grace to Lino either. More than her own selfish concerns, Jenny, for once, finds herself coward enough to face and deliver the truth. In the end, it matters not for Lino that he find his wife for he has found himself. And alas, it matters not for Jenny that she make sacrifice for love, for she has learned give in order to live again.

Ambitious. Driven. A passionate soul. Jenny has been in Milan for only three years, but she has come a long way-earning loads of money, establishing a network of contacts all over Italy, and yes, even speaking impeccable Italian. She is still waiting for the next legi or amnesty that would grant her legal working papers, but she has already become of the most imposing figures in her OFW community, admired by her peers for her guts and spirit.
At 23, Jenny is street-smart. She is also extremely intelligent, despite the fact that she has barely finished her first year in college. She's not the eldest in the family, but her siblings rely mostly on her as their provider. Her dream is to bring back her family's old days of glory, before tragedy befell them--business competitors conspired against her father and had him imprisoned. During those times, her family lost everything. Jenny had to stop schooling, and take on a job to help her family.
And then Italy came. Or rather, she came to Italy.
In Italy, she has found a mine of opportunities. And ever since she has been in Milan, Jenny has always worked hard and well. As far as she is concerned, there are countless things to save up for: the schooling of her two nephews; the three-storey house that she plans to build back home, where from the top she could look down at the people who have oppressed and belittled them then.
But most of all, Jenny is saving up for the day when she plans to petition her entire family to Italy. In Milan, she has found the kind of life she has always wanted. As she would tell her friend Vangie, "Dito, DH ka nga. Katulong. Pero ang kapeng iniinom ng amo mo, 'yun din ang kapeng iniinom mo. Ang pagkain nila…pasyalan…pati damit…pantay-pantay lang tayo, pero dapat, taasan mo ang tingin mo sa sarili mo."
And then she meets Lino, whose vulnerability touches her life in a way that she doesn't expect. Her friendship with him, forged from her own selfish intentions, gradually evolves into something genuine. His sincerity melts her, inspires in her the need to reach out and give. Under the glow of his gratitude and admiration, she grows into a nurturing person who has come to discover the real meaning of love.

Simple, naïve, content enough with his humble lot. Working as an engineer for a small factory in his hometown, Lino aspires for nothing more than a quiet life, and a happy family to share with his young wife, Mary Grace.
But Mary Grace has left to work as an OFW in Italy a long time ago, and Lino hasn't heard from her since. Despite his growing despondency, Lino still believes that she will return; he, in fact, has been patiently waiting for her all this time, refusing to listen to cynical relatives who say that his wife has left him for good.
Soon, Lino's love for Mary Grace compels him to do what everyone has least expected of him: to go to Milan to try and find her. His relatives think that he has gone berserk, and that he's out to vent his ire on Mary Grace once he finds her. But they are wrong. For in truth, Lino greatly fears that something bad has happened to his wife; he is going to Milan to rescue her.
In that foreign land, Lino is a lost stranger. Looking for Mary Grace in a city like Milan is like looking for a needle in a haystack. In his desperate search, he finds Jenny, a street-smart Filipina OFW who teaches him the art of survival in Milan.
With Jenny by his side, the naïve rural engineer learns to do odd jobs to make both ends meet--cleaning backyards, scrubbing other people's toilets. Lino finds himself surrendering his life to this beautiful, strong woman. From choosing his jobs to choosing his clothes, Jenny's opinion always matters.
Jenny becomes his mentor, his guide, his very best friend. And a point comes when all that Lino wants is to be able to impress her, please her, win her love. And at that point does Lino come to understand what Mary Grace probably went through, and how the heart can be changed by time and circumstance.
