Star Cinema has every reason to feel proud again. It has once more proven itself in uplifting Filipino
moviemaking to excellent standard. Alam n'yo bang tatlong pelikula nila ang naimbita sa 2005 Cannes Filmfest from May 13 to 23?
Taong 2001 nang ipalabas ang Bagong Buwan which had Cesar Montano in the lead role. It's a film that dealt with war and sub-cultural truce between Filipino Christians and Muslim and it won best picture in the Catholic Mass Media Awards, 50th FAMAS, 4th Pasado Gawad Sining and 2nd best picture in the Metro Manila filmfest.
Dekada '70, starring Vilma Santos and Christopher de Leon, tells of how a seminal decade in Philippine history unleashes the power of a working class to fight a dictatorship as seen through the experience of a Filipino family. Dekada '70 won best picture in the 26th Gawad Urian, 5th Pasado Gawad Sining, Young Critics Circle, Catholic Mass Media Award and 2nd best picture in the Metro Manila filmfest.
Milan, shown in 2004, is about Filipino overseas workers. It was adjudged Movie of the Year and also won for direk Olive the best director award in the last Star Awards for Movies of the Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC). Direk Olive was also named Most Popular Director in the just concluded Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation Awards.
