Di ba ngayon ang alis nila papunta France? Sabi kasi niya on The Buzz sa Tuesday. It must today kasi iyong mga Hollywood stars eh andon na. Btw.....enjoyed listening during ASAP's tribute to Claudine when the guys said she's the only Filipina actress to attend the Cannes Film Fest. Daming inggit na naman diyan.....hehe buti nga. ;D (Sorry I feel devilish today) Nga pala....what the hell was Piolo wearing during the awards night? Dios mio, one would think he was in a cold country. And to think he wore that wrap around what was that? A scarf? In the middle of the day? Wheew.

A Regal turnaround ... and other scenes at the Academy awardsPosted 08:57pm (Mla time) May 16, 2005 By Marinel Cruz Inquirer News Service Editor's Note: Published on page A30 of the May 17, 2005 issue of the Philippine Daily Inquirer. REGAL Entertainment producer Lily Monteverde on Saturday accepted the Best Picture Award from the Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP) for "Aishite Imasu 1941," a film she earlier insisted she "had nothing to do with." "Aishite Imasu 1941," produced by BasFilms Production, was one of four entries to the 2004 Metro Manila Film Festival, all said to be Monteverde's productions. The three others were "Sigaw," identified as a production of MegaVision (which claimed to be an independent outfit); "So Happy Together" of Regal Entertainment' and "Mano Po 3" of MAQ Productions, known to be a sister company of Regal. In an earlier interview, Monteverde said: "At no time has Regal Entertainment or any member of the Monteverde family been a stockholder of [BasFilms and MegaVision]. They are bona fide companies that Regal Entertainment Inc. has nothing to do with." But on Saturday, even Luna Best Actor Dennis Trillo, who played the role of a gay spy working for Filipino guerrillas in "Aishite Imasu 1941," thanked Monteverde for including him in the cast. In her own acceptance speech, Monteverde urged other producers and filmmakers to keep the industry alive by making more films. "I have been a movie fan since I was young," she recalled."I used to go to Luneta Park to watch the actors while they were shooting. Now I'm a producer myself. And although I don't make money anymore from producing films, I still make movies." The Red CarpetCelebrities started arriving at the Harbour Garden Tent of the Westin Philippine Plaza at 5:15 p.m. First group of stars was comprised of "Santa Santita" director Laurice Guillen, actors Johnny Delgado, Angelica Panganiban, John Prats, Mark Herras and Aubrey Miles. Ushers and usherettes led them to a cordoned area in front of the stage, where they were served wine. Bodyguards in tailored suits patrolled the cordoned area, watching over precious pieces of jewelry from Bvlgari that were loaned to some celebrities present that night. The media and other guests were told to occupy only tables covered with white mantles. Dinner was not served until 10 p.m., or after the awards ceremony, at Westin's Grand Ballroom, where the Director General's Ball was held. Eight life-size and shimmering Luna statues were strategically positioned all over the place. They were replicas of the new FAP trophy, the design of which was based on a painting by Juan Luna. Interesting "Is this the sister of the UP (Oblation)?" awards show host Martin Nievera commented. Screen writer Irma Dimaranan, nominated for her work in "Naglalayag," said she came all the way from her home in Los Baéos, Laguna, to attend the rites because she found it "very interesting." "This show is well organized. I received notification of my nomination a month before the show," Dimaranan told Inquirer Entertainment. "Not only that, they continued to send me info about what would happen in the ceremony." Character actress Cherie Gil co-hosted the event. She interviewed big winners Trillo, Claudine Barretto ("Milan"), Jaclyn Jose ("Naglalayag") and Jay Manalo ("Aishite Imasu 1941") who were ushered to the media room, and handed them their prizes. GoodiesBarretto and Trillo were each given a steel-plated Solotempo watch from Bvlgari. They also get to drive, for one month, four different models of cars from BMW Philippines. Barretto also got a handbag from Yves St Laurent. "Goodie bags" were likewise handed out to nominees. According to Dimaranan, she received items from Marlboro Classics, Nine West, Calvin Clein, Tutto Moda and Jessica. Regine Velasquez, who performed the last number, sang to a half-filled ballroom-the stars had already been instructed to go to the poolside area to view the fireworks. ---- i would have loved it more kung tinawag na lang si dine na 1st academy award best actress

Regal Films collects half of Luna awards By Gypsy Baldovina Source : Manila Bulletin Online
A school dropout and unabashed movie fan-turned- producer Lily Monteverde scored the biggest win at the 23rd Luna Awards by the Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP) last Saturday at the Harbor Garden Tent, Westin Philippine Plaza.
A total of six awards including Best Picture went to "Aishite Imasu, 1941" of Lily Monteverde’s Regal Films.
The M. Butterfly-inspired drama also won the best actor award for Dennis Trillo and best supporting actor for Jay Manalo, as well as awards for production design and editing. The sixth Luna (for directing) went to Joel Lamangan.
The night’s biggest surprise was the upset win of Claudine Barretto for "Milan," over last year’s FAP Best Actress Maricel Soriano, fellow soap superstar Judy Ann Santos, and four- time FAP best-actress winners Vilma Santos and Nora Aunor.
Cesar Montano’s "Panaghoy sa Suba" shared in the night’s glory with three awards, including Best Screenplay, Best Music Design, and Best Cinematography.
This was Trillo’s first nomination and his first win at the Luna. The same goes with Barretto, who had never won any award despite repeated nominations in other award-giving bodies.
"This is the best birthday gift," said the surprised Trillo, who celebrated his birthday two days before the Luna. Both Trillo and Barretto got a Bulgari watch as part of their prize.
"It’s my first," said the visibly choked Barretto. "Being nominated along with brilliant actresses is humbling enough," and she went on dedicating her award to her studio ABS-CBN, her mentors and peers, and "my inspiration, Raymart (Santiago)."
In other categories, horror flick "Feng Shui" was recognized for Sound Design while "Pa-Siyam" and "Spirit of the Glass" won for best movie trailer and best poster, respectively.
Cris Vertido, who won for best screenplay ("Panaghoy sa Suba") used the time allotted for his acceptance speech to advance the cause of her sister-in-law. He dedicated his award to a certain Karen who, he said, was raped twice—firstly, by the actual rapist, and secondly, by the judiciary who acquitted the rapist after an agonizing nine-year trial.
Industry leader Marichu Maceda received the lifetime achievement award named after the late "king of Philippine movies" Fernando Poe Jr.
She was introduced by Susan Roces as the single force who united all the showbiz people to organize and form the Film Academy of the Philippines, 22 years ago.
"Thank God, this was not given to me posthumously," was Manay Ichu’s immediate reaction upon reading the text of Boots Anson Roa, informing that she was to receive the award.
In her speech, she paid tribute to her mother Mama Nene Vera Perez, "for the unconditional love and support—emotionally and financially—when I was busy working for the industry.
"This is just the start of my journey," she said. "I vow to do more for the industry, today and tomorrow."
Jericho Rosales, Sarah Geronimo, Piolo Pascual and Regine Velasquez provided entertainment, while Martin Nievera and Cherie Gil served as the evening’s hosts.
A ho-hum award rites
While many lauded the efforts of the FAP director-general Leo Martinez and his partner, Albert Martinez, to uplift the standard of award-giving bodies and revive interest in the dying film industry, observers said that the recent FAP extravaganza remains flawed.
The event was practically boycotted by the press, and the very few who managed to get the invites felt they were marginalized as they were requested to seat at the farthest end of the ballroom, while the photographers were assigned to shoot at exactly 20 meters away from the stage.
The show also suffered from too many technical mishaps particularly the sound, that turned on and off at its own fancy. "And just how the giving out of a measly 12 trophies would stretch into a three-hour ceremony is beyond me," said one kibitzer.
The stars, including movie queens Susan Roces and Gloria Romero were also made to stand onstage for the longest time to serve as "props" while the winners for best actress and best actor awards were being announced.
And just before the last three numbers of the program, the audience was requested to go to the pool area for the fireworks display. As a result, Regine Velasquez sang before an almost-empty ballroom, while Joel Lamangan and Mother Lily gave their acceptance speeches before empty chairs.
Luna frocks put color in shade
There was color, yes, but it was black that won at the 23rd Academy Awards. Susan Roces, Lorna Tolentino and Judy Ann Santos all wore black. And so did Iza Calzado, Gina Alajar, Phoemela Baranda, Aubrey Miles, Bernadette Allyson, Boots Anson Roa, Alessandra de Rossi, Donna Cruz and Laurice Guillen.
Sure, there was Maricel Soriano impeccably dressed in a floral printed bustier in white and shocking fuschia.
But the colorful frocks paled next to Cherie Gil’s verdant green Cesar Gaupo, Maricel Laxa’s brilliant red gown, Lani Mercado and Angel Locsin’s Ito Curata. Regine Velasquez was simply stunning in a red Rajo Laurel.
Then there were the whites and gold and pink to brighten the mood, like Francine Prieto absolutely glowing in immaculate white, Geneva Cruz and Sarah Geronimo in varying shades of pink, Sandy Andolong in yellow and Ruffa Mae Quinto in gold.
But best of all was Angelica Panganiban in a body-clinging chiffon and Alessandra de Rossi wearing the best fashion accessory of all—no, not a Bulgari necklace but equally large and just as sparkly—a huge grin, even when they were not nominated.
No dress stood out as absolutely worst nor were there any complete shockers. There were no out-of this-world headdresses, nor there were any breasts showing, though a number were spilling (Lorna T.’s, Regine V’s and Aubrey M.’s).
Best actress winner Claudine Barretto managed to look every inch the winner in her multi-colored gown by Randy Ortiz.
And, of course there is always one who, knowing they are unlikely to win, came dressed as one instead—Celia Rodriguez who gave the little Luna statuettes a run for their money in a flower-inspired gown. But she looked like she was enjoying herself, which is, of course, the most important thing.

haha it might turned to be a surprise .. but she deserved it and no one dared to question it .. if they do, lagot sila hahahaha ;D
