If you’re wondering how actor Jericho Rosales behaves in a relationship with a woman, then his love scene with Luna Best Actress Claudine Barretto in Star Cinema’s "Nasaan Ka Man" will give you a clue.
The actor, who’s working for the first time with Claudine in a movie (they play lovers), described their love scene as very intense and beautiful. He attributed this to director Cholo Laurel’s choreography, the lighting of Charlie Peralta and Claudine’s acting prowess.
"Yung ginawa namin ni Claudine na pinagawa ni Director Cholo was something different. Magaling talagang artista si Claudine. It was beautiful and it was the best because talagang nagmamahalan sila. It was very tender. We expressed love two ways: Verbal and by touching—which is physical. May mga sinasabi kami while making love so hindi lang exchange ng emotions but also our intellect...mararamdaman ng mga manunood na nagmamahalan sila," Jericho said during a pocket interview at The Cork last Wednesday.
If moviegoers can see a spark between him and Claudine on the silver screen, it would only be because both of them gave their respective characters demanded. And as lovers, it was but natural to be passionate in their love-making, thus making Joven (Jericho) and Pilar’s (Claudine) love very realistic in the film.
"Claudine and I had an instant on-cam relationship, even if this was the first time we worked together. Our chemistry was automatic because we would only look at each other and kahit maghawakan lang ng kamay, alam na namin ang gagawin namin. We have good rapport between us," he proudly shared about their smooth working relationship.
He even added that it is possible that the intensity he showed in his movie love scene with Claudine would be the same if she were with his real girlfriend.
"Kung mag-express ako ng pagmamahal o pag-ibig sa isang babae, ganun din. I am always expressive," he says with a grin.
In "Nasaan Ka Man," Jericho, Claudine and Diether Ocampo are the adopted children of two spinsters played by Gloria Diaz and Hilda Koronel. And when the brothers fell in love with their adopted sister, chaos threaten to break their once happy family life.
"Our characters in the movie lived in a far away place and we were the only ones living there. We also know that we were adopted so it was likely for us to fall for one another. Pero kung magkadugo kayo, imposibleng magka-gustuhan kayo," he explained.
Among the adopted children, Joven was the most disliked by the spinsters. Because of this, he opted to live separately from his family. He stayed in a bunk outside their house. The only person who’s on his side was Pilar whom he fell in love with.
Jericho also remembered that it was the story that excited him when he was offered this role. It was different from the usual light romantic movie roles he has done.
Production for "Nasaan Ka Man" started while Jericho was also doing Unitel’s "Santa Santita." Doing two movies simultaneously proved taxing for Jericho. He said it’s a good thing that his "good boy" role in the former balanced out his devious character in "Santa Santita."
"I had the chance to choose my role and I went for Joven because I didn’t want to go overboard portraying a bad guy. Kasi salbahe na ako sa ‘Santa Santita’ na ginagawa ko rin that time."
The antagonistic role of Ito (which went to Diether) may be more challenging and it has been predicted that it could even outshine Jericho and Claudine’s characters in the film. But Echo has no regrets. As an actor, he sees himself as very intense so a challenge for him would be to hold back, tone down and control his acting.
"Natutuwa ako sa performance ni Diet," he shared. "Kahit anong character na gawin ko, natutuwa ako kung anong kalalabasan. Whatever comes out of my performance as Joven, I won’t have no regrets. Diether’s intensity is different from mine."
Regarding his director, Cholo Laurel, Jericho described him as a simple man yet an elaborate and very stylish filmmaker. "Nakikita niya ang kakayahan ng bawat artista. Iba ang expression niya through his camera shots. I tell him what I’ll do and he’ll tell me his opinions, too."
Besides the movie "Nasaan Ka Man" (which is set to open on June 15), Jericho had a short-lived stint in the sitcom "Bora." But what his fans and televiewers truly await is Jericho’s soon-to-be-aired TV series "Panday."
"The first time I wore the Panday costume, I got really excited. The crew who saw me even called me FPJ kasi kamukha ko raw. Siyempre hindi ko siya mapapalitan. Iba pa rin si FPJ as Panday...nahihirapan nga akong makakuha ng mga copy ng mga ‘Panday’ movies niya," he relates.
Jericho is also going international as he is set to fly to Malaysia soon for a semi-documentary movie funded by the Malaysian government. They will also shoot in Brussels, Belgium for the said project. He was tapped for the project based on his and Kristine Hermosa’s soap opera "Pangako Sa ‘Yo" which was very popular in Malaysia we were told.
"I’m excited to find out how popular I am in Malaysia," he smiles. "Kinakabahan din ako kasi this is something new. I’ll do my best for the Filipinos para makita nila na magagaling ang mga Filipinos."
Besides acting, Jericho Rosales is busy with his music career as band leader of Jeans which he formed this year. The have been performing in concert lounges like Ratsky’s Malate and have been appearing in "ASAP." Jeans are currently recording songs for their debut album which he hopes to launch this year. Jericho is not only the lead vocalist and guitar player in Jeans but also the songwriter of their upcoming album.
"I’m very excited about Jeans kasi ang dami pang pwedeng ma-explore. I advise all actors to form a band because I find it very helpful in acting!"
